1961 Recall Dedicated to Coach Parnell Ruark

Coach Ruark coached the JC basketball team and the 1961 "State Champion" Baseball team as well as the "Unbeaten, untied, and unbelievable 1C State Champion" High School football team.

Congratulations!  It has been fifty years since you marched from the hallowed halls of GMC.  You are now promoted to the "Golden Brigade", a unit that has fond memories through the years and has lost many comrades.

Every October GMC calls us back to Alumni Weekend. This year marks the fiftieth year since we saluted Colonel Thorne and walked from the stage with our diplomas.  This year we join the "Golden Brigade."  For the last several years Alumni Weekend has had a very good turnout and those attending shared many memories and hugs.  It was very moving and everyone that came was so glad he did!  So, please make plans to attend this year.  The dates are October 20-22nd.


This blog is to pass along stories and information about our class of 1961 and other 60's era cadets.  I hope it will build enthisiasm and encourage you to attend. I hope those of you who have not been back to GMC in the last several years will come and see the many changes, including the brand new Prep School Building, Ussery Hall, that GMC has made. But, most important will be renewing of friendships and  sharing memories with your classmates.  You will be glad you did.

1961's Golden Brigade

Earlene Hamilton, the Alumni Relations Coordinator for GMC is working on plans for this year’s Alumni Weekend, which includes a special 50th reunion for all of us,the High School and Junior College Classes of 1961.

Alumni Weekends at GMC have in the past been fabulous events and this year promises to be one of the best ever.  In the last two years the classes of 1959 and 1960 worked hard to locate classmates and encourage them to  join them for Alumni Weekend.  We hope you will do the same.




Earlene and her staff will be happy to help with mailings and finding “lost” classmates, but most important will be your participation in planning this special reunion event. Your involvement will ensure that it is an occasion you will enjoy and then remember and enjoy again for years more to come. The Alumni Office has sent you a list of your classmates for whom it no longer has current information. Any help you can be in locating them will be most appreciated. 


Please make note of the dates for the weekend – October 21st and 22nd. Hopefully, by now you have received the alumni weekend brochure, which gives you the schedule of events and your registration information; however, if you have not, the information is also available on our GMC website at www.gmc.cc.ga.us in the alumni section under events.
